Dispersion Staining
Dispersion Staining is a group of microscopical analytical techniques based on the analytical interpretation of colors that are the result of differences in the rate of change of the refractive index as a function of wavelength (dispersion) for two materials in intimate contact. More simply stated, it is the interpretation of the colors created by a material mounted in a medium of matching refractive index that has a different dispersion curve. The most common application is in the analysis of asbestos fibers but it has many other very useful applications.
